Tom Hammond, London |

 |
Tom's role as London Development Officer is part of a full-time jobshare position with Heather Tomala.
Since graduating from London's Royal Academy of Music in 1997 Tom has been a busy professional conductor and trombone player, working in both the professional and voluntary sectors. He is currently the Sir Charles Mackerras Junior Fellow in Conducting at Trinity College of Music, London.
Interesting playing projects have included working at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and the Verdi Festival in Parma (with Europa Galante), as well as many concerts with British ensembles such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Britten Sinfonia.
Tom has instigated, directed and managed several large music projects including a festival of Danish music in London and the ENO/Baylis/1st Framework production of The Threepenny Opera (London and Berlin), and brings a wealth of promoting and programming experience to the RDO position.
Continuing to conduct with his professional ensemble sound collective Tom aims to bring back the joy of voluntary music-making for seasoned professionals by increasing rehearsal time and pursuing a democratic ethos. Tom is also increasingly involved in opera: in 2007 he will be conducting performances of Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmelites and Mozart's Zaide, both for Trinity College of Music.
Tom also conducts in the voluntary world with ensembles such as the City of Southampton Orchestra, Sinfonia Tamesa and Surrey Brass.
As London's Regional Development Officer
Take advantage of dedicated advice from two practising professional musicians.
Heather Tomala and Tom Hammond are available to advise members on all aspects of music-making and running a music group in London, as well as on how to help ensure your group evolves and lasts into the future. As well as the more common themes of marketing, recruitment and funding, they can help with artistic and programming issues and the specific needs of your group.
Maintaining links with Arts Development Officers and other arts and music organisations, Heather and Tom regularly attend and speak at external events with a view to benefiting and increasing opportunities for Making Music members. They can also help member groups put together funding applications and project proposals.
More recently, their work has taken the direction of community-focused projects. Following their hugely successful pilot Music & Health project in partnership with Notting Hill Housing earlier this year, it is anticipated there will be many more such ways of involving London member groups musically with their local communities.
They also work closely with the voluntary London Committee to increase contact with the Making Music membership. In short, they act as a first contact point in London. |
