Board of Directors
Rod Grealish, Director
I started playing the piano in Singapore when I was 7 and took up the violin at the age of 10. I was fortunate enough to attend a school where music was important: The late Sir Edward Heath was a pupil there. I play the violin with the Stafford Sinfonia and other local orchestras. My wife, Helena, also plays the violin and our three daughters learned musical instruments and played at county youth orchestra level.

Until recently I was Regional Operations Manager for my professional body, the British Computer Society, as well as representing the British Standards Institute at international computer standards meetings. I was previously a university lecturer in computing and before that a software developer with ICL in Edinburgh.

The best bit is working with other like-minded volunteers. I am amazed at the knowledge of my fellow committee members in all kinds of musical and non-musical areas. I hope I can make a contribution to music making. A recent source of satisfaction was being a member of the organising committee (all volunteers) for the performance of Elgar's Dream of Gerontius at Symphony Hall, Birmingham - given by members of our member groups in the West Midlands.

My role as First Call Director (FCD) for the East Midlands, Eastern, Scotland and Yorkshire committees and my experience as secretary of the West Midlands committee ensures that, along with other board members, there is a committee and society input to Board discussions.
