Liverpool Mozart Orchestra |
The Liverpool Mozart Orchestra (LMO) has been giving concerts on Merseyside since its foundation in 1951. It fills an important musical niche, while providing a platform for emergent and established professional soloists and conductors. Peter Donohoe, Zubin Mehta, Martin Roscoe, Sir Charles Groves, Carl Davis and more recently its President, Sir Simon Rattle, are among the famous names with whom the LMO has worked during its long history.
The orchestra performs a wide range of music from the baroque, classical and contemporary repertoire, so making a significant contribution to the rich cultural life of the Northwest. It is through working with professional and often eminent conductors and soloists that the LMO strives to achieve the highest quality of performance.

Mr John Cunningham spoke to Making Music about the Positive About Equal Opportunities Award: |
Why did your group decide to apply for the Equal Opportunities Award?
The group applied because when the Award came out we were already considering Equal Opportunities within our group. I had been to a Making Music training event on Equal Opportunities and thought that the group should apply for the award.
The LMO had one specific reason for applying. They had had a problem in the past when a prospective member auditioned and was below the standard required. The orchestra therefore wanted to make sure they had a clearly outlined procedure for finding and auditioning new members, and this was something that was able to be looked at during the process of applying for the Equal Opportunities Award.
How do you use the Positive About Equal Opportunities Logo?
The logo can be seen on the group's website and used on concert programs.
How did your group benefit from applying for the Positive About Equal Opportunities Award?
The orchestra is happy that we now have a satisfactory method for admission of new members. The process of getting the award was very helpful in developing this procedure.

The choir is considering Equal Opportunity aspects, such as access and location, as they search for a new rehearsal venue. |

The choir made sure that their performance venue was accessible by replacing the staging to accommodate the elder members. |
