London born pianist Alexander Soares is increasingly in demand as a soloist. He has performed across the UK at venues such as the Barbican Centre, LSO St. Luke's, St. James' Piccadilly and West Road, Cambridge. He has appeared on BBC Radio 3, taking part in a UK première in collaboration with the Barbican's Total Immersion Series, and has featured in the LSO Discovery Series, performing a recital of French Music. Upcoming projects include a tour of Stravinsky's Les Noces around London and Paris. Alexander made his concerto debut at the age of 17, with the Barber Concerto, and since then has regularly appeared as a concerto soloist with orchestras in London and Cambridge, most recently with the Ealing Symphony Orchestra, in a critically acclaimed performance of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto.
Alexander began his piano studies at the Royal College of Music (RCM), Junior Department, under Emily Jeffrey. At the RCM he was winner of all of the top competitions, and upon leaving was awarded the Esther Coleman prize for outstanding contribution. He graduated with a first class degree from Clare College, Cambridge. Alexander is currently studying with Ronan O'Hora on the Master's course at Guildhall School of Music, where he holds a full scholarship.
He has won numerous awards including Guildhall School of Musics Beethoven Prize, a Countess of Munster award, the Ealing Festival Concerto Award, and reached the semi-finals of both the Manchester International Concerto Competition and the Bromsgrove Festival. He has won scholarships to Dartington to study piano with Stephen Kovacevich and Joanna MacGregor and has taken part in masterclasses with Dominique Merlet, Steven Osborne and Yonty Solomon. Alexander is grateful to the Arts Council, the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, and the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners for their generous support.
