3R Promise

Pledging to treat our volunteers well.

Last modified on: 27/10/2011

3R PromiseMaking Music has joined the growing list of third sector organisations to have signed up to the 3R Promise, Volunteering England’s response to the Volunteer Rights Inquiry.

The Volunteer Rights Inquiry was set up in 2009 in response to several high profile problems between volunteers and the organisations they volunteered for. This led to some calls for more rights for volunteers and some form of external means of redress for volunteers. The 3R Promise stops short of recommending an official Ombudsman or other such body at this stage. It stresses that, although negative experiences for volunteers would appear to be fairly uncommon and most organisations put a lot of work into managing volunteers well, it is important to make sure we all continue to keep an eye on how we work with our volunteers. We fully support the 3 pledges in the 3R Promise to get it RIGHT from the beginning, to offer means to achieve RECONCILIATION if things go wrong and to accept our RESPONSIBILITY.
