First sentence/ quick summary

About the event:

Join us for the latest in our series of guest speaker events, featuring key people from arts-related organisations in the UK sharing their insights into a variety of topics relevant to Making Music member groups.

Many leisure-time music groups regularly consider making project funding applications to arts councils, trusts or foundations, and are looking for ways to increase their chances of being successful. In this event, our guest speakers will share their experiences as applicants, as funders, and as fundraising consultants, and give us their top tips for applying for funding.

  • John Rostron, Making Music’s Manager in Wales, also works as a fundraising consultant and has many years of experience making applications large and small to funders throughout the UK. He will share his ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’, and his top tips for writing a funding application.
  • Kim Macari from Arts Council England, who has many years’ experience reading project applications, will share with us the perspective of the recipient trying to piece together all the information they need to make an informed decision.
  • Abby Charles from Ty Cerydd, the development agency for music in Wales, will take us through their funding opportunities for leisure-time music groups in Wales, and their application and selection process.
  • We will also feature two short case studies from groups who have successfully applied for funding.

All leisure-time music makers who are considering making project funding applications to any of the arts councils of the UK or to trusts or foundations are welcome to attend, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
