National events and festivals: opportunities for your group (online event)

Registration is closed for this event
First sentence/ quick summary

Join us for the latest in our series of guest speaker events, featuring key people from arts-related organisations in the UK sharing their insights into a variety of topics relevant to leisure-time music groups.

Getting out into public spaces can be a real boost to your group’s profile. There are many national events, movements and organisations offering opportunities to showcase your group on new platforms and reach potential new participants and audiences, while also giving your group members an exciting new project to work towards.

In this session, our guest speakers will highlight some of the different events and festivals, so that you can go back to your group with practical information to help you decide whether an opportunity is for you, and what you might gain by taking part.

  • Rachel Bowron will speak about the Ralph Vaughan William anniversary celebrations (150th birthday on 12 October 2022) and share some inspiration about how to get involved.
  • Victoria Verbi of the Together Coalition, a campaign which brings together some of the UK's most influential and best known organisations to help build kinder, closer and more connected communities, will speak about Thank You Day - The UK's biggest Thank you Party on Sunday 4 July, and how they’re inviting music groups to play a key part in the day.
  • Alison Porter of Make Music Day will outline the many ways of getting involved and put your group on the map nationally and globally on 21 June each year.
  • Jill Shevlin of Music For All will speak about Learn to Play Day, an initiative which sees music shops all over the UK throw open their doors for some free taster lessons – and perhaps a performance or two from you this September?
  • Kirsty Lothian and Makala Cheung of Fun Palaces will share how you can set up or contribute to a Fun Palace near you on the first weekend in October each year.

There will be breakout room sessions for you to find out more from individual speakers, and an opportunity to ask questions.
