Kirsty McDowell, North East

Kirsty joined the Training and Development team in 2005, becoming Regional Development Officer for the North East in spring 2007. She is based in Newcastle upon Tyne where she plays with local amateur orchestras and the professional string quartet Arco. Kirsty's background is in the management of voluntary orchestral groups.

Since joining Making Music, Kirsty's activities in the North East have included
- Striking Out, a series of development projects for voluntary music groups which involved over 500 amateur musicians and volunteers and almost 2000 audience members (now available as a series of 7 case studies)
- Training sessions in audience development, equal opportunities and fund-raising
- Lobbying
- One-to-one support for music groups
- A survey of member needs in the North East region, using this to shape and plan events and opportunities for the region.

As well as continuing to lobby on behalf of voluntary music and providing one-to-one support for members, Kirsty's current focus is on helping music groups work successfully with young people. More information about particular projects and events will appear on the Events pages of the Making Music website as well as on the NE regional website.

Kirsty is always keen to hear from voluntary music groups in the North East. Whether you have a question about funding, opportunities for collaboration, equal opportunities, or you just want to find out more about what Making Music can do for you why not get in touch?
