Boyan Ivanov, born in 1983 in Yambol, Bulgaria, is one of the most promising young clarinetists today. In 2001 he graduated from the National High School of Music "Dobrin Petkov" in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, as a student of Dimitar Boyanov, and in 2005 he completed his Bachelor studies with highest honours from the Plovdiv Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts. His professor and mentor there was the renowned Professor Petko Radev, a long-time principal clarinettist of La Scala, Milan. During his studies Boyan won third prize in the 2003 International Competition for French Music Performance, with jury chairman Prof. Yves Didier, France.

Boyan has participated in Master Classes with Andrew Marriner (UK), Robert Spring (USA), Charles Neidich (USA), Reiner Wehle (Germany), Nicolas Balderou (France), and Hervé Cligniez (France). He has played as a soloist and toured extensively throughout Europe and South Korea with several Bulgarian orchestras.

In London Boyan has recently performed as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician at many prestigious venues including Barbican Hall, Cadogan Hall, St James's Piccadilly, St. Martin in the Fields, Charlton House, Blackheath Halls, Regent Hall, St Lawrence Church and St Alfege Church. In 2008/09 he studied with the Spanish virtuoso clarinettist, Joan Enric Lluna at Trinity College of Music, where he gained the FTCL Recital Diploma in Clarinet, was Principal Clarinet of the Trinity Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, and played the clarinet solo part in Bernstein's famous Prelude, Fugue and Riffs with Trinity Jazz Ensemble in a performance at Blackheath Halls. In December 2008 he participated in the Young Janacek Philharmonic under the direction of Jan Latham Koenig. In August 2009 the Italian pianist Emilio Aversano invited Boyan to participate in the festival "Armonie della Magna Grecia", where he made his debut on the Italian stage with two concerts in Tropea and Pizzo.

In 2010 Boyan was awarded his Master's Degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he was studying with Julian Farrell, Nick Carpenter and Andrew Webster, and was Principal Clarinet of the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra. In January 2010 he was awarded the Making Music Philip & Dorothy Green Award for Young Concert Artists and a few months later won the Woodwind Section First Prize in the Ealing Music Festival.

Currently Boyan is an active solo and chamber music performer and is a member of Inspirity Ensemble, 7/8 Ensemble and Ivanov Wind Quintet. He plays regularly with Orion Symphony and London Arts Orchestras and continues to study privately with Andrew Marriner.
