David Bedford Commission
Help us create a major new work!
Following the success of the previous The Kestrel Road commission in 2004, with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, we are delighted to offer Making Music members this unique opportunity.
David Bedford is celebrating his 70th birthday, and we are delighted that he has invited choirs in membership of Making Music to help him mark the occasion.

"A composer who is instinctively creative to his very fingertips"
The Daily Telegraph

"One of the most creatively alert and endearing figures in modern British music"
The Guardian

David has written a major new choral work for Making Music members only, entitled: "The Soft Stars that Shine at Night".

David is attending a number of rehearsals of the piece and tailoring the orchestration to suit accompaniment by various instrumentations.

Not only will this serve to give new music by one of the UK's best-loved composers performance platforms from Land's End to John O'Groats, it will also focus on the activities of amateur musicians with whom David has enjoyed some of his most beneficial compositional relationships in his long musical life.

More information about the project is available.

We also have more information about the life and career of David Bedford.

We currently have ten choirs registered. It may still be possible for a small number of other choirs to perform this exciting new work during its first season. Please contact us immediately if you're interested.

David Bedford   Adopt-a-composer
David began composing at the age of seven and studied at the Royal Academy of Music. This commission celebrates his 70th birthday.   Every year the adopt-a-composer programme gives voluntary music groups the opportunity to work closely on a new piece of music with an emerging composer.
