Commissioning Uncovered

Commissioning Uncovered is a Making Music project run in association with the Performing Right Society Foundation.

The project provides an online source of information about the process of commissioning new musical works, as well as a series of databases to make commissioning easier.

PRS Foundation

As a funder of new music, especially of commissions, PRS Foundation dedicate over £150,000 directly to commissions every year through the Awards for New Works www.prsfoundation.co.uk/funding/newworks.htm.

Other schemes can also help to 'top up' commission fees directly to composers www.prsfoundation.co.uk/funding/bursaries.htm.

Listening Panel

The Listening Panel will launch late in 2007, providing critical 'tasting notes' to a range of recently published music. A panel of experts will assess a variety of music and make critical recommendations and give advice on performance considerations.

The intention is to make new music more accessible to voluntary performing groups (choral and orchestral), and to raise awareness of the possible opportunities for performance of new music.

The project will begin with works published by OUP, and move on in turn to other publishers in the first instance.
