Best known as an international arts commentator, magazine publisher and broadcaster, Paul Cutts left journalism to become the Clore Leadership Programme's Fellow in Creative Economy in 2008. As part of his fellowship, Paul worked as a consultant to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, writing a business strategy and programming plan for the opening of its new arts centre in his native Cardiff.
A former head chorister and choral scholar of St David's Metropolitan Cathedral in the Welsh capital, Paul graduated with first class honours in English from the city's university before winning a scholarship to the Centre for Journalism Studies. After editing a Native American newspaper in the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming, Paul returned to London to pursue his journalism career. There, he became music director of the community choir The Pink Singers (a post he held for five years in the 1990s) and he remains a keen amateur pianist, singer and composer.
Founder of Gramophone Online and former editorial director of Impromptu Publishing in Manchester, Paul has contributed to all of the country's leading classical music magazines as well as The Guardian newspaper. He has written programme notes for leading orchestras and festivals and been heard on BBC Radios 2,3, 4, Classic FM and WNYC in New York.
In February 2009, Paul took a three-month sabbatical from his Making Music directorship to work with the legendary Cleveland Orchestra in the USA as part of his Clore Fellowship. He returned to London in May to take up a new post as chief executive of a major London arts consortium.
