I had the great privilege of being born in Pakistan and had most of my education there and in Afghanistan & India. I say privilege because it gave me a most amazing insight into countries (and their peoples, language & customs) of which most people know very little.
Musically the sub-continent is a rich mixture of classical and folk and the Raags of India became an abiding passion of mine and which my Grandfather, a Doctor of Music, was able to help me understand. Thus my passion for music was unleashed at a very early age, and I have since gone on to (badly!) play the piano at Grade 6 and, more recently, attain my Certificate in singing with Trinity College. I also learned to speak, read & write Urdu, and to speak a smattering of Pushtu (the language of Afghanistan). Since coming to live in Wales, in 1972, I have made a point of studying Welsh culture, music and the language. Welsh is, apparently, the 6th most difficult language in the world!
I joined NFMS (as it was then known) in 1995 as Secretary of NFMS Wales and became Chairman of Making Music Wales six years ago. Two & a half years ago I was elected to the Board of Making Music, a role that I took on with relish. A year after this appointment I was elected as Vice-Chairman of Making Music.
As an amateur musician I uphold all that Making Music stands for and firmly believe that amateur music makers and organisations can, and do, benefit greatly from all that our organisation has to offer.
As well as a very busy schedule within Making Music - as Chairman of the Welsh Committee, Board Director and First call Director to three of the English Committees - North West, West Midlands and South East (England), I run my own business, in the private care sector, which operates nationally within the UK and enables people to stay in their own homes rather than go into residential care.

Making Music was established in 1935. We have a rich history of musical activity and this is reflected in the organisation's presidents from Sir George Dyson to Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. |
Maxwell Davies is our current president and universally acknowledged as one of the foremost composers of our time. |
