Lyric coloratura soprano Eleanor Briggs grew up in Hereford and began singing at a young age. She trained as a Scholar at both the Birmingham Conservatoire Junior Department and at the Royal College of Music, where she gained an Honours degree in Oboe & Voice. Eleanor currently studies with Teresa Cahill on the Masters course at Trinity College of Music, and was chosen for the Royal Opera House Mentor Scheme 2008-09. Eleanor was a Choral Scholar at St Martin-in-the-Fields, a member of the professional Choir of St Michael's Cornhill, and began a Choral Scholarship at the Old Royal Naval Chapel, Greenwich this year.
Eleanor's operatic roles comprise Pamina (Die Zauberflote), Miss Polly Peachum (The Beggar's Opera), The Plaintiff (Trial by Jury), Sally Fox (Martha), Bellezza (L'Egisto), Lucia (The Rape of Lucretia), Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos), Belinda (Dido & Aeneas), Ilia (Idomeneo), First Lady (Die Zauberflote) and Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica). Her concert experience includes performances with the London Mozart Players, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the world premiere of Troy Banarzi's 'Requiem for the Missing'. She also sings with contemporary group The Conference of Birds, who specialise in performing music inspired by birds and birdsong, and directs Trafalgar Voices, a small vocal ensemble.
Eleanor is generously supported by the Church Street Charitable Trust, the Becket Bulmer Charitable Trust, the Thomas Dickinson Charity and the Lynn Foundation.
