Dr. Maheshwar Godbole of the Indian Classical Music Society |

Dr Godbole was one of the founding members of the Indian Classical Music Society (ICMS), established in 1976 which is based in Greater Manchester. He has been the secretary of the society for 28 years.
Every year the ICMS stages three concerts of classical music by professional musicians visiting from India. Although Dr Godbole is from Northern India he has always encouraged the society to promote not only the more popular North Indian classical music (Hindustani) but also its South Indian counterpart from the Karmatic tradition. His aim has been to bring together the two communities, with their different languages, cuisine, costume and customs through the medium of music.
He has worked hard to develop audience support from the various cultural communities in the North West. His vision, commitment and determination have sustained the ICMS and ensured its success. In January 2002 Dr Godbole was honoured in Delhi with the Jewel of India Award by the former president of India. As part of the Making Music Conference in 2007 Dr Godbole and his wife gave 'An introduction to Indian Classical Music' by way of commentary and singing.
