Making Music announces winner of 2009 President's Award: Harry Whitham
The inaugural award was presented in September 2009 to Harry Whitham for his enormous contribution to Making Music.
Harry joined the West Riding Singers in 1954 and was soon involved in helping the choir to become a charity and to join the National Federation of Music Societies, now known as Making Music. He very soon joined the NFMS National Executive Committee and the Yorkshire Committee, helping distribute Arts Council of Great Britain funds. He collated vast amounts of information on Yorkshire members — their administration and expenditure from year dot — and when we moved into the computer age, Harry created and maintained the membership database, running Making Music's Labels Service for close to 20 years. Harry is looking forward to more travelling with his wife, and to enjoying his stock of wines, which he brings back from regular trips to France. On behalf of Making Music, we thank him for his loyal contribution and wish him an enjoyable retirement.
