Valerie Baulard: Biography (2002)

Valerie has worked as a professional singer and singing teacher for thirty-three years.
1980 Valerie moved to Settle area in Yorkshire Dales and started a small singing group in Langcliffe.
1984 Valerie formed The Langcliffe Singers, an SATB choir of sixteen singers.
Valerie also organised The Long Preston Christmas Musical for local children for five consecutive years in Long Preston Village. This involved 40-50 children and was performed in local churches and a local establishment for the mentally handicapped.
1992 Valerie founded The Craven Opera Group, performing such operas as: The Magic Flute, Trial by Jury, The Marriage of Figaro and Patience. All singers were trained and production staged by Valerie Baulard.
Valerie also founded Long Preston Youth Choir, involving village children. Functioned for five years, competing in music festivals and doing concerts for causes and charities.
She set up Skipton Music Centre Choir which operated every Saturday morning for children aged between 7-14 years culminating in concerts and festivals
1998 Founded Stars for teenagers from the boys and girls grammar schools in Skipton, including performances from Rent, Fame and Les Miserables. Valerie worked with this group, teaching and guiding them to organise singing, backing, staging and costume etc. Now after four years they are running the whole enterprise themselves.
Valerie is currently a mentor for Ermysteads Grammar School and for Settle High School under the auspices of Making Music's Young Promoters Scheme. The Scheme encourages young people to put on three concerts over a one-year period, doing all the necessary organisation required themselves.
2002 The Langcliffe Singers now have seventy-three members who perform three main concerts a year, as well as several concerts each year for charities. The choir produced its first compact disc in December 2001. Choir members come from a radius of twenty-five to thirty miles around Settle. |
