Creative Scotland music sector review13 May 2012

Creative Scotland is undertaking a series of sector reviews to help inform and shape future activities and priorities. One such review focusses on the music sector and there is an online questionnaire aimed at anyone undertaking music-related activity in Scotland. Have your say and make sure that the voice of voluntary music is heard.

Fruitful London trip for MANGO13 May 2012

The
Lanarkshire Guitar and Mandolin Association (LGMA) is one of the largest music making organisations in Scotland, with two orchestras and 280 young people and adults taking part in music making activities every week. Now LGMA can boast that it has champions in its ranks! At the National Competitions of the British BMG (Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar) Federation held in London, its youth orchestra, MANGO, took 1st place in the Youth Orchestral section to return to Scotland as British Champions. Together with the adult orchestra, Da Capo Alba, they took a total of seven first places in a variety of competitions.
A first for Glasgow Wind Band!13 May 2012

The members of
Glasgow Wind Band have good reason to be proud of their achievements in the first part of this year. Not content with gaining a Gold Plus award in their début appearance at the Scottish Concert Band Festival National Finals at Perth Concert Hall, they then headed for the prestigious National Concert Band Festival (NCBF) at the Royal Academy of Music in London. The band received a Platinum Award in the Open Class of the Festival and, in addition, these fine musicians were proud to accept the first ever Outstanding Consistent Achievement Award for winning a Platinum Award in three consecutive years. Congratulations!
Voluntary Arts Week 20121 May 2012
Voluntary music groups across the UK and Republic of Ireland are encouraged to take part in the Voluntary Arts Week to showcase their musical activities, whether putting on a concert, inviting people to an open rehearsal or running a free taster session.
