Music for Alice (MfA) was set up in Spring 2006 to commemorate the life of Alice Macgill, a musician who died aged 24 in the Indian Ocean Tsunami. Alice was a talented cellist and composer who studied music as an undergraduate and was undertaking a Music Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) at Goldsmiths College at the time of her death.
Through her life as a musician Alice was fortunate to receive many opportunities to improve and develop her cello playing and it is Music for Alice's aim to remember Alice by giving today's musicians an opportunity, through financial assistance, to further their music education and development. The award comprises a bursary of £500, and is presented to a candidate applying for the Philip & Dorothy Green Award for Young Concert Artists. Judges will select the candidate based on their artistic potential and the nature of the project to which they will apply the bursary.
