Sir Charles and Lady Hilary Groves Prizes
Each year Making Music awards the Groves Prizes to individuals and organisations making an outstanding contribution to British music.
Last modified on: 23/01/2012
We established the Sir Charles Groves Prize in 1990 in recognition of the outstanding contribution that individuals, both amateur and professional, and organisations make to the cultural life of their communities in the UK.
The prize has since been restructured into two annual awards in honour of Sir Charles Groves and Lady Hilary Groves, both of whom gave exceptional support to Making Music during their lifetimes.
The Sir Charles Groves Prize honours the remarkable contribution of Sir Charles to both amateur music, as a former president of Making Music, and to British musicianship and composition. It was also launched to mark the renowned conductor's 75th birthday. The Lady Hilary Groves prize acknowledges the contribution of Lady Hilary Groves to Making Music as vice-president and as an ardent supporter of amateur music making in the UK.
