Truro School of Samba to lead Olympic Torch Relay parade

Truro School of SambaTruro School of Samba will lead a sports parade on the first day of the Olympic Torch Relay, Saturday 19 May. The samba school have been performing all over the South West since 2005 entertaining audiences with their infectious rhythms and spectacular dancers. 'We have been rehearsing extremely hard for this event with new choreography arranged especially for the day' explains Emma Skilton the Artistic Director. 'We will also play for the Olympic Torch as it goes through Lemon Street'.
 
BBC Performing Arts Fund – new grants available for community music

BBC Performing Arts Fund logoFollowing the great success of our partnership with the BBC Performing Arts Fund in 2010 (entitled 'Choral Ambition'), we have worked with them to help develop this new fund. £450,000 will be available, across two schemes, one of which is specifically set up to support community music, of any genre.
 
Changes to music education in England

The Chili Road BandAnnounced in the government’s National Plan for Music Education, music education hubs will ensure that every child aged 5-18 has the opportunity to sing and learn a musical instrument, as well as to perform as part of an ensemble or choir. They will also provide opportunities for young people to take their talent further, through partnerships with local ensembles and nationally funded music organisations.
