We then worked with the Music Publishers Association, who has commissioned her to write a new work to be performed by Making Music choirs. We would like to encourage groups to include the piece in the 2011/12 season if possible.

Kerry writes:

'I'm passionate about British traditional music and folklore, and wanted to delve into my books on English folklore and superstition as a starting point for researching this piece... In each song, I'm exploring more than one rhyme: I love to gather together a wealth of texts and then put my own stamp on them: re-ordering them, mixing them up, and weaving them together. The songs will each have different approaches, but will including exploring vocal loops, slightly unusual sounds (such as singing and buzzing simultaneously!), and some lovely tunes too.’

The piece is entitled 'Rhymes and Charms for Fly-Away Things', and has been written with Making Music groups in mind, scored for soprano, alto, tenor and bass (SATB) with keyboard accompaniment. It is about 15 minutes long, split into 5 separate songs. It is free for member groups to access and perform the work.
