After his 2008 Swiss Alps challenge, our Chief Executive Robin Osterley bravely signed up to run the London Marathon in 2012, which raised over £4,000 to be split between Making Music and our charity partner CLIC Sargent.
Robin completed the marathon in 4:53:12, less than his target finish time of 5 hours. He finished 613th out of 944 men in the 55-59 category (but 372nd if we remove the club runners). He had trained altogether for 11 hours, completing 114 runs (4 per week) without missing a single one since last autumn. Prior to the training period, he had never run more than nine miles or walked further than 20!
‘I am SO grateful for all the support, financial and otherwise that many of you have given me. At the time of writing we have raised £4,410.99 (including Gift Aid) for Making Music and CLIC Sargent.’
– Robin Osterley, Chief Executive
Support two great causes
For the next two years Making Music will be supporting CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, by helping them to raise £50,000. Every day 10 families are told their child has cancer. CLIC Sargent is the only organisation to offer them all round care and support
Making Music is creating community music groups in areas of social deprivation; new open-access singing courses to boost membership for existing groups; wellbeing choirs for people with health problems, the elderly, homeless people and others; orchestras and bands for beginners; youth ensembles; and more …
Our membership income enables us to provide music groups around the UK with essential services. But with your help, Making Music can go further and create inspiring opportunities for people from different backgrounds, ages and incomes to come together and make music.
