1. Who can update my group profile?
Those who are registered to the website as Making Music Representative, Treasurer, Chair, Secretary and Publicity Officer of the group will have access to make updates to their group’s profile page. Find out how you can register or add any of these roles to your user profile.
2. I am already a registered user holding the relevant role for my group, what do I do next?
First you have to be logged in. If you haven’t, you can log in via the ‘Log in’ link in the top right corner of the screen.
Then, go to My Making Music > View / edit my details > My group > Edit group profile
NB If you hold more than one role for a group or more than one group, you will be asked to select the relevant group and role in order to proceed. Remember, only those holding a Making Music Representative (MM Rep), Treasurer, Chair, Secretary and Publicity Officer role are allowed to edit their group profile.
3. Getting started
Here are the most important things to complete:
a) Profile picture – upload a photo of your group, rather than your group’s logo. Performing groups can choose a photo of the group making music whilst promoting groups can use an image of a past concert or past performing venue. When uploading an image, please ensure it is a landscape layout (for best results, check width is no more than three times the height).
b) Group description – provide a welcoming description of no more than 50 words to give a snapshot about your group’s activities.
c) Rehearsals – prospective members will find it useful to know where you rehearse.
d) Rehearsal days – enter the days and time that your group rehearse.
e) Principal venue postcode or details for mapping your principal location – it is very important to add the most relevant postcode here as it will determine the mapping result of your group’s location via our ‘Find a group’ tool. Please enter the postcode of the venue where you currently rehearse and do update this information if it changes.
f) Contact information – this will always default to the group’s MM Rep. The information determines who will be the public facing contact for your group if you tick the 'Allow users to contact this person?' field. You can keep the MM Rep as the public contact or if you are the MM Rep, you can decide to opt out and select someone else. We strongly encourage that you do allow users to contact someone in your group – their contact details will never be displayed on the website as they will be reached via a web form that protects the contact details.
g) About your group (pre-selected fields) – these fields are pre-selected based on the information you provided when your group joined Making Music. Please update to reflect any changes.
h) Add links below to appear in your group profile – does your group have a Flickr page? Are you on YouTube? Does your group have a Facebook or Twitter account? If so, please provide these details to be displayed on the group profile.
4. We don’t have a Flickr account. Why should we create one and how?
If you have images of your group performing or of concerts you’ve promoted in the past, you can share and display them on your group profile. This will make your group more appealing to prospective members. You can do so by creating a Flickr account (if you haven’t yet) and upload images to your Flickr page. Once you have done so, you can also display these images on the group profile by entering your Flickr stream URL. You can find the Flickr stream URL by
clicking on the RSS feed icon on the left, which will take you to a new page where you will find the URL that starts with http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/xxx. Please copy and paste this URL into the ‘Enter your Flickr stream URL here’ field on the edit your group profile page.
Always remember to save, and to view your saved profile, click on ‘save and view’. Contact the Making Music office by telephone on 020 7422 8280 or by email if you encounter any problems or require further assistance.
