Come and Sing, Faure's Requiem

Vivace Choir is inviting singers to a

‘Come and Sing’ day

where the choir will be working on Faure’s Requiem.

Vivace has been working on the Requiem this term, and it will form the centrepiece of Vivace’s concert ‘For the Fallen’ in the evening.   The choir are enjoying an in-depth study of the work and welcome others to join them on the day to sing and perhaps gain some of the insights to the piece.

The day will be led by Vivace’s conductor Robert Bunting.  Here’s what he has to say about the Requiem: -

‘Faure is the only composer who actually fought in a war to write a Requiem.  A powerful exploration of pain, grief and consolation. Faure’s treatment of the text is subtle and intimate, quite unlike other well-known settings by Mozart or Verdi.  There are glorious melodies with expressive harmonies interspersed with one or two passages of complex choral writing. This is a chance to learn or revisit one of the great choral works of the 19th Century.’
