Blow Your Trumpets: Arise, Arise

This year’s Summer concert celebrates Women in Music, with all of the pieces having been penned by a female composer.

The centrepiece of the evening is a setting of the poem Evensong by Irish-born poet Cherry Smyth, composed for, and in consultation with, the choir, by award-winning classical guitarist and composer Laura Snowden, as part of the Adopt-a-Composer scheme run by Making Music.  Adopt a Composer is run by Making Music in partnership with Sound and Music, in association with BBC Radio 3, and funded by PRS Foundation and the Philip and Dorothy Green Music Trust.

Other pieces we will be singing are:

Kerry Andrew – O Lux Beata Trinitas

Clara Schumann – 3 Gemischte Chöre

Hildegard Von Bingen – Caritas Abundat

Carlotta Ferrari – O Dulcissime Amator

Judith Weir – My Guardian Angel

Sally Beamish – In the stillness
