J S Bach - St Matthew Passion

One of the greatest choral works ever written, the 'Matthew Passion' of JS Bach stands as a monument to the genius of the composer, and is one of the most dramatic and beautiful oratorios in the repertoire. This performance, as part of the choir's new Baroque weekend festival, will feature stunning young soloists and an orchestra of some of the best Baroque instrumentalists in the country. Cheltenham Bach Choir (cond: David Crown) will bring to life the extraordinary emotional scope of the work, ranging from the baying mob, to the reflective chorales. This will be, without doubt, a highlight of the Cheltenham musical year. Performers: The Musical and Amicable Society Baroque Orchestra Rosalind Coad (soprano) Annie Gill (mezzo-soprano) William Wallace (tenor) Nick Pritchard (tenor) - Evangelist Nick Merryweather (bass) - Christus Morgan Pearse - bass
