Tchaikowsky – Capriccio Italien
Borodin – Symphony No. 2 in B minor
Stravinsky – ‘Firebird’ Suite
Tchaikowsky’s Capriccio Italien, dramatic, tuneful and without a trace of the melancholy so often associated with him, will get our concert season off to a lively start. This is followed by Borodin’s best known symphony, packed with lively Slavic rhythms and atmospheric melodies. The ‘Firebird’ suite is one of Stravinsky’s most popular works, drawn from the ballet of that name based on Russian fairy tales of the Firebird and the blessing and curse it bestows on its owner. As the nights draw in stave off the cold with this concert of musical fireworks in the comfortable surroundings of Trinity Church.
The concert is conducted by David Lardi.
