JESS GILLAM & ANTHONY HEWITT - Saxophone & Piano Recital

18-year-old saxophonist Jess Gillam from Ulverston, Cumbria, began playing saxophone aged 7. In 2016, Jess made history as the first saxophonist to win the Woodwind Final of BBC Young Musician of the Year. She reached the Grand Final and performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at London’s Barbican Hall to critical acclaim. This summer Jess makes her BBC 2017 Proms solo debut at the Royal Albert Hall, performing with both the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Concerto highlights for the 2016/17 season include appearances with Southbank Sinfonia and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.  She gives recitals throughout the UK and has appeared on BBC Radio.  Jess studied at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, and has now entered the RNCM with an ABRSM Scholarship.  Anthony Hewitt is regarded as one of Britain’s most gifted pianists with a prolific performing career spanning two decades. He has performed regularly at the Wigmore Hall, at festivals worldwide, and has received critical acclaim for his many recordings.  An excitingly wide-ranging programme from classics to folk and jazz influences has been devised, including works by Marcello, Debussy, Ravel, Michael Nyman, Dave Heath, and Peter DeRose.
