Welcome to the sixth Music@Malling Festival - a festival that brings international artists to historical venues in and around West Malling, Kent. The festival will run from 23rd September - 1st October 2016 and celebrates an eclectic mix of fabulous music.
Founded in 2011, Music@Malling has a festival each September featuring the music of contemporary composers alongside classical, jazz, vocal, world and film music: the outreach programme and a number of satellite events run across the year.
The festival literally kicks off with Classical Kicks! - an evening of genre bending music with Lizzie Ball - violin and vocals and the outstanding accordionist Milos Milivojevic at The Farmhouse.
West Side Story is celebrated by The Callum Au Big Band - stalwarts of Ronnie Scott's Club in London. They give a concert featuring music by jazz greats Count Basie, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and many more.
Bach is a featured composer with performances at West Malling Abbey of the complete Sonatas for Viola Da Gamba and Harpsichord with Richard Harwood and the complete Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord with leading Baroque violinist Richard Gwilt. The internationally acclaimed keyboard player, Steven Devine performs in these three special concerts.
Mozart and Bach are performed in a series of concerts along the Pilgrims Way in the beautiful churches of Trottiscliffe and Birling with Chamber Domaine and flute soloist Sami Junnonen.
World renowned vocal ensemble give a concert touches of Sweet Harmony with a programme of Shakespeare settings ancient and modern.
Other events include Close to You with a star lineup of musicians including vocalist Matt Ford who appeared in the Proms with the John Wilson Orchestra. Leading film composers will be premiered in a recital by cellist Richard Harwood at The Control Tower Kings Hill.
Hundreds of local children are going to be involved in a concerts and workshops based around Peter and the Wolf.
