Opera@Bearwood’s next production will be Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène. Like Orpheus in the Underworld this opera is an irreverent and hilarious take on Greek mythology and the scurrilous goings-on that led up to the Trojan war. The music is a feast of melody, and the plot can only be described as zany.
The ideal show for a warm summer evening with no dead bodies littering the stage as frequently happens with more serious operas.
Jim Petts, our director, has produced a new translation which will be performed in English and staged in a (fairly) traditional manner, accompanied by a small instrumental ensemble.
The cast is drawn from our celebrated chorus and will include some you may not have seen for a while, with a leavening of some outsiders to add to the sense of occasion.
You are welcome to bring your picnics as usual.
Singers please phone 0118 966 5414 - no auditions for chorus members. New to singing, you're very welcome
