The Choir will be singing arrangements of popular traditional Folk Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Bob Chilcott and John Rutter. The main single work of this concert is Bob Chilcott's Cantata "Songs and Cries of London Town". This piece is a collection of folk songs and cries about (or would be heard in) London. "Come buy" is based on 17th Century street cries, "The flower of cities" based on writing of William Dunbar (15th-16th Centry), "London Bells" based on 18th Centrury texts (but some of this will be a little familiar!), William Wordsworth's poem "Composed on Westminster Bridge,September 3, 1802" and finally "Good Morrow" - the text being 17th century (but adapted a bit!). It's a lovely mix of bright and active pieces with lovely melodies.
Mid-Herts Youth Choir will be joining with us and performing and there will be other piano solos and duets. It should be an evening full of wonderful melodies and great tunes....see you there!
The concert area in the Music Centre is air conditioned with comfy seating and has good disabled access.
