Zimbe! and Mass of the Children

Zimbe! by Alexander L’Estrange  - Come and hear the Songs of Africa!   Stowmarket Chorale, together with children from 3 local schools:  Rougham Primary, Great Finborough Primary and South Lee School, Bury St Edmunds, will perform Zimbe!   Accompanied by the composer,  Alexander L’Estrange and his Jazz Quintet, this performance is a celebration of African music combining traditional songs with jazz, Western choral and pop influences, and sung with enthusiasm and fun by adult 4-part chorus and unison children’s choir.

Conducted by the Chorale’s Music Director, Leslie Olive, and following on from last year’s performance of Ahoy! this is the second collaboration between Stowmarket Chorale and Rougham Primary School, Great Finborough Primary School and South Lee School, and Alexander L’Estrange and his Jazz Quintet.

Mass of the Children by John Rutter is a setting of the Latin Missa brevis.  Performed by Stowmarket Chorale together with children from South Lee School and with baritone and soprano soloists; the work is accompanied on the piano by William Baldry,  sung in Latin within the framework of a complete day from waking to sleeping, with other English poetic texts appearing as if they were events in the day.
