The William Byrd Singers: The Singing will Never be Done

The Byrds spring into summer with a delightful programme, all by English composers, including favourites by Pearsall and Finzi; Two Shakespeare Settings by David Grundy; and also his Celebration aptly chosen as our president Stephen Wilkinson celebrates his centenary. So naturally we have programmed Stephen's triptych The Singing will Never be Done; and the moving Nocturne for John which he dedicated to the choir's founder Dr. John Coope.

Far from the English countryside, Chilcott takes us to rural Africa where the ritual construction of a drum from natural sources imbues it with the power to speak to music, dance and the gods. Look out for the many percussion instruments featured in this piece. There will also be varied solo and ensemble items from members of the choir.

Tickets are available at the door, from choir members, or online. And if you aren't available on 11th, this concert will be repeated at 7.30pm on Sunday 19th May at St. Oswald's in Bollington as part of the Bollington Festival. Do join us!
