Wind, Rain & Sun

Join us in confronting the elements: Wind, Rain & Sun sounds like a typical British summer!

The seasons are colourfully portrayed in Arnold's "John Clare Cantata"; and Roxburgh's "Stone of Arthur" begs Gaia to return and reverse the damage that man has done to nature. There is nothing like a summer romance, and Brahms' "Liebesliederwalzer" fits the bill perfectly.

All these works are accompanied by our gifted piano duo, Rosalind Hall and James Pelham, who will further delight us with the first movement from Schubert's "Grande Sonate" Op30. James will also play piano solos by Vaughan Williams and Brahms, and members of the choir will sing solos exploring our summer themes.

The concert opens with Elgar's well-loved "As Torrents in Summer" followed by "O Wild West Wind" which ends with, "If winter comes, can spring be far behind?" Of course not!

The William Byrd Singers invite you to this concert on Saturday 20 May at 7.30 at Christ Church, West Didsbury M20 2ZD. Tickets cost £10 (£9 concessions, £5 students) at the door or in advance from choir members. See williambyrdsingers.org.uk for more details.
