Transformation - Airedale Symphony Orchestra Summer concert

A night of masterpieces to entertain, delight and transform! This is music describing the moments that have transformed lives. Come and be inspired by that human spirit striving for the best we can be, whether through struggle, redemption or love. This is a concert of dramatic, beautiful and life-affirming music with a very human story.

Shostakovitch's ebullient Festival Overture is wild celebration - apparently at the death of Stalin, with brilliant fanfares from a massive brass section leading this triumphal gallop of an overture. Followed by the ever famous Peer Gynt Suite telling the story of the downfall and redemption of a Norwegian peasant anti-hero, including the beautiful depiction of sunrise 'Morning', and the dramatic 'Hall of the Mountain King' where Peer Gynt is forced to face his fears in order to be redeemed.

Mahler wrote his fifth symphony shortly after surviving a life-threatening illness followed by his marriage and birth of his first child. With renewed delight in his life he takes us from funeral pyre, redemption and un-suppressed joy and love. Featuring some of the most famously beautiful and dramatic moments in classical music, this will be a journey of transformation for us all.
