Poetry has inspired music and music has inspired poetry for as far back as records go and undoubtedly much much further. Our summer concert is a celebration of composers from the twentieth century who have been inspired by poets across the English-speaking world. From Thomas Nashe’s Spring, the Sweet Spring to Rudyard Kipling’s Seal Lullaby and from Christopher Smart’s extraordinary Jubilato Agno to Dylan Thomas, this is a feast of poetry and music to greet the summer.
Among the composers featured are Benjamin Britten (Rejoice in the Lamb), E. J. Moeran (Songs of Springtime), Finzi (God Is Gone Up), Samuel Barber (Sure on this Shining Night) and Eric Whitaker (The Seal Lullaby), each bringing their own unique take on a piece of much loved poetry.
