The Cobweb Orchestra - Morpeth Group Music Leader / Conductor

Our current leader of the Morpeth Group is reluctantly having to stand down from his position for family reasons and so we are looking for a new leader to take this recently rejuvenated group forward and continue the good work of the retiring encumbent.

The group meets on a Tuesday night over three 10 week terms terms that broadly follow the school calendar  The rehearsal venue is currently King Edward Vl High School in Morpeth.

The principal duties of the Morpeth Group Music Leader are as follows:

1. to take a lead in ensuring that the group is successful and viable, in particular that attendance and morale remain as high as possible, and to maintain communications with the members of the Group to this end;
2. to undertake the musical training of the Group in such works as shall be chosen and to arrange, with the agreement of the Group, regular rehearsals for this purpose;
3. to select music for the Group.  This may be from the Cobweb Orchestra's own extensive library or from other sources.
4. to ensure that the highest possible musical standards are achieved both at rehearsals and concerts, consistent with the Group’s musical and financial resources;
5. to advise and assist the Cobweb Trustees in the artistic direction of the Morpeth Group;
6. to provide to the Group and/or the Cobweb Trustees as requested all details reasonably required for producing programmes and publicity material.

Beyond the weekly rehearsals there will be ample scope for the successful candidate to take on other opportunities, if they wish, across the Cobweb Orchestra calendar which includes study days, residentials. conductor development workshops and more.

The Group Leader will be engaged by the Cobweb Orchestra Trustees on a self-employed basis as an independent contractor, responsible for their own income tax, Classs 4 NI contributions and VAT returns.
