Musical Director

Application deadline:
Monday, 15 April 2024
Description of vacancy:

The Edinburgh Bach Choir is an auditioned, amateur choir currently consisting of around 80 singers of all abilities. The choir rehearses regularly on Tuesday evenings at St Cuthbert’s Church, Lothian Road, Edinburgh, with performances on a weekend three times a year.

The choir aims to maintain a commitment to singing the works of J S Bach, however, they do sing a wide variety of music ranging from early polyphony to twentieth century composers including Requiem for the Innocent, composed by James Robertson who was a former member of the choir. Future pieces include Vivaldi’s Dixit Dominus (RV 595), Charpentier’s Te Deum and Monteverdi’s Beatus Vir .

You can read more about the choir’s history and its music in more detail here.

The EBC is looking for a successor for its current Musical Director, Stephen Doughty, who has been with them for the past seven years. The successful applicant will collaborate with the committee in planning rehearsals for concerts, deciding and agreeing on appropriate programmes for the season ahead that takes into account the choir’s ability and budget.

The Musical Director will work closely with the Librarian to resource music for the choir and instruments. They will also work closely with the Membership Secretary regarding auditions for those wishing to join the choir and any seating arrangements for the choir for a concert.

If you are interested in applying, or know someone who might be interested, you can find the job description here.

To apply, please submit a copy of your CV along with a covering letter to Janet May at recruitment@edinburghbachchoir.org.uk before 6pm on Monday 15 April 2024.
