We are looking for an inspirational Musical Director who can work effectively with amateur singers
and who is able to use the singers’ existing knowledge, to bring the best out of the choir and further
develop its skills.

We are seeking someone with an energetic leadership style as we strive to maintain a high standard
of music making and to develop our repertoire of modern choral music alongside the more
traditional choral works, to broaden appeal for both the choir and its audience.

There is no audition process for members and the choir contains singers of differing levels of musical
ability and experience.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience of choral direction with adult choirs and a wide
knowledge of both traditional and modern choral repertoire. The candidate should be aware of the
need to support the vocal health of the singers and demonstrate inclusive teaching and
communication practices.

They will be responsible for planning and leading weekly rehearsals, conducting the choir, musicians,
and soloists at concerts, and, in conjunction with the committee, engaging professional soloists and
musicians when required. They will also work in a collaborative way with the committee on the
selection of music for concerts and other events.

We rehearse on Wednesday evenings, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Hope Chapel in Hoylake. Our
annual season runs from September to May.

We are lucky to have an experienced accompanist who has worked with us for a number of years.

The Musical Director will be appointed on a self-employed basis, with a remuneration subject to
negotiation, and having regard to the candidates’ skills and previous experience. The level of
remuneration will be reviewed annually.

The selection process will include an interview (virtual) and rehearsal audition.
