Rhiannon Harrison appointed new Chair of Making Music

We are thrilled to introduce Rhiannon Harrison as the new Chair of Making Music. After six years of dedicated service as Chair, Dorothy Wilson's term came to a close in August.

Rhiannon's journey with Making Music began in 2020 when they were first elected to the Board as a trustee, and a representative of member group the Worsley Concert Band. Over the past three years, they have shown strong commitment, dedication, and deep understanding of our organisation and its mission, making them a natural fit to lead Making Music into the future.

Rhiannon is a freelance musician, and their time is split between performing on trombone, teaching brass, and conducting the Worsley Concert Band. Rhiannon's main passion is musical theatre, and they spend most of their time in pits, accompanying both amateur and professional productions.

Dorothy Wilson, who served as Chair for the past six years, will now assume the role of Vice-Chair, continuing to contribute her expertise to Making Music’s Board. Pete Burchill steps into the position of Treasurer.

Additionally, we are pleased to welcome new Board members Catherine Travers, committee member of St Neots Sinfonia; Andy Devine, Treasurer of Teesside Music Society, and Kathy McLeish, music director of Godalming Community Gospel Choir, and look forward to working with them over the next three years.

Rhiannon Harrison says:

'I'm delighted to be taking on a more directly supportive role for this wonderful organisation, although it will undoubtedly be a challenge to fill the massive shoes left by outgoing chair Dorothy Wilson. I know I am incredibly fortunate to have a fantastic board to support me initially, and I look forward to seeing it diversify even further during my tenure.'

Barbara Eifler of Making Music says:

'I am delighted to welcome Rhiannon as new Chair of Making Music – they have already been such a pleasure to work with and have made such a strong contribution over their last three years as a trustee. It is also, as every year, exciting to add new trustees to the Board who reflect the varied nature of our member groups and the myriad professional skills of their participants. I very much look forward to working with all of them.'

As we navigate exciting times ahead, Making Music is dedicated to its mission of supporting leisure-time music groups throughout the UK. With Rhiannon Harrison at the helm and a dynamic team of Board members, we are looking to continue fostering creativity, collaboration, and growth within our community.
