First sentence/ quick summary

About the event:

Orchestra Tax Relief (OTR) is a source of income for instrumental groups with 12 or more performers. You don’t have to be an orchestra or pay tax to claim it! This event will explain what it is and how your group can benefit from it.

OTR is one of the Creative Industries Tax reliefs launched in 2017. It allows instrumental groups to claim a payment from HMRC equal to a percentage of their production costs. So far, Making Music has helped groups claim over £250,000, and on average, a group has been able to claim back 14% of their total concert budget.

Despite being called 'Orchestra Tax Relief':

  • many types of instrumental group can make a claim (including groups of one type of instrument, e.g. flute choirs) – so don’t be put off if your group is not a traditional orchestra
  • you don’t have to be paying tax to claim it
  • there is no cultural test and you can claim every year
  • for most instrumental groups with 12 instrumentalists (the minimum number to qualify for OTR) it's likely that your usual performances would qualify for OTR - so it really is money for doing what you do anyway!

We'll talk about:

  • Background to Orchestra Tax Relief and what it is
  • Who can claim it – and how much you might be able to claim
  • What you need to do and set up in order to claim this relief for your group
  • How Making Music can help, from initial set up to making the claim.
  • Anything else that comes up on the topic!

There will be an opportunity to ask questions via the chat function during the event.
There will be a short break during the event.
