The Dream of Gerontius

The Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and Bournemouth Concert Orchestra are joined by international soloists Diana Montague, John Findon and Stephen Gadd in a performance of Elgar's most famous and best loved choral works - The Dream of Gerontius. This acclaimed masterpiece sets the text of Cardinal Newman's poem in one of the most moving and powerful oratorios of the twentieth century. Join celebrated soloists, orchestra, Chorus, with Chris Dowie organ under conductor Gavin Carr for this truly extra-ordinary work.

This concert is promoted by the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus in tribute to Sandrey Date, a much respected and long serving member of the Bass Section, Music Advisor and Trustee for more than 50 years. Many will remember him as Music Librarian at the former Lansdowne Music Library and later at The Bournemouth Library. He spent his career supporting and encouraging performances and audiences for local amateur and professional musicians.

This concert, in which many of the artists are giving their services, aims to raise funds for the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus Sandrey Date Choral Scholarship Fund. This will give structured support and experience to gifted bass baritones in the very important early stages of their professional careers. The Dream of Gerontius was the first choral work he sang in and was a particular favourite throughout his life.
