Celebrating Dvořák!

Lewisham Choral Society presents a concert celebrating the music of Antonín Dvořák: two joyful choral works and his charming Sonatina for piano and flute.

Lovers of Dvořák’s symphonies will recognise the same lyrical, folk-influenced style in these delightful works. The Mass in Dripples along, its movements in turn lively, dramatic and serenely peaceful. The Te Deum begins and ends with exultant choruses that frame quieter contemplative passages and a whirling dance - a reminder of Dvořák’s Bohemian roots. His father was, after all, the village dance-band leader!

To perform the Sonatina, we welcome leading flautist Jennifer Stinton. Jennifer performs frequently at home and abroad as a soloist with leading orchestras and as a chamber player and has made many recordings.Gifted organist and pianist Martyn Noble is currently Musician-in-Residence at Highgate School and is also sub-organist at St. James’s Palace. Martyn also performs as a piano accompanist at both the Royal College and Academy of Music and works with choirs and in musical theatre.

Lewisham Choral Society is one of London’s most accomplished community choirs, performing regularly at major venues including the Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall. They have performed twice in Paris and recently in Berlin. Their director, Dan Ludford-Thomas, is a talented conductor, teacher and choral director.
