A Basket of Bachs

'A Basket of Bachs': music by Big Daddy, JS Bach and 3 of his 4 professional musician sons.

We see how each extended and changed their father's musical language and developed their own expressive personalities as fashions changed and styles morphed from the baroque of JS to the emerging classical world of Haydn and Mozart.

Ashley Solomon, our Musical Director, conducts and we are joined by the exciting young soprano Maryam Wocial to perform two vocal works - a gorgeous aria from Carl Philipp Emanuel's Magnificat and a lively one with a great flute solo - virtually a concerto - from Johann Christian's opera ‘Endymion’. Also by 'The London Bach' is one of his lively symphonies, this for double orchestra. His lesser-known brother, Wilhelm Friedemann, is represented by a rarely heard sinfonia, known by its nickname, 'Dissonant', which describes clearly its rather startling character. We are in more familiar territory with the first of JS Bach's popular and sparkling Orchestral Suites.

No interval but drinks available at the start and finish.
