The Salisbury Symphonies

In July, the ensemble is led by Catherine Martin in a concert which is a recreation of 18th Century concerts performed inSalisbury.

The concert programme contains three symphonies written byJohn Harris and a selection of other contemporary music.

Catherine specialises in performances on period instruments; she is leader of the Gabrieli Consort and Players and the orchestra of the Early Opera Company, and has also appeared as guest leader of The English Concert and Florilegium. In demand as violin soloist and director, recently Catherine has directed concerts with Barokkanerne, Oslo and the Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra.

Salisbury Baroque Concert Society arranges similar "reconstruction" concerts every summer which contain a short talk about the music of the period.
