Verdi’s Requiem is one of the most thrilling choral masterpieces ever composed. This great work appeared towards the end of Verdi’s life at a time when he had already created such famous operas as ‘Aida’, ‘Il Trovatore’ and ‘La Traviata, Verdi’s unique musical creation of the Requiem provides strong dramatic music, which is brilliantly contrasted with magical sections of music with a quieter nature. The ‘Dies irae’ and ‘Tuba mirum’ are two of the most exciting sections of choral music ever composed and there are many more different parts of the score featuring glorious choral music alongside wonderfully varied radiant and dramatic music for the four solo singers. Verdi’s outstanding setting of the Requiem Mass is a unique masterpiece.
