Summer Concert
Henley Symphony Orchestra
Our popular “Picnic” Concert in June is held in the grounds of Shiplake College in a large marquee. This is an evening of wonderful music combined with the beauty of the Oxfordshire countryside and the fun of picnicking beforehand. It provides a fitting setting for the best remembered work of Gerald Finzi, a thoroughly English composer, who wrote his Clarinet Concerto in rural Herefordshire in 1949. We welcome back one of Britain’s outstanding clarinettists, Richard Hosford, as soloist. Richard is Principal Clarinet with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the BBC Symphony Orchestra and is a long-standing member of the Nash Ensemble.
