Handel's Theodora
Aylesbury Opera
Handel's late oratorio (1750), written as he was losing his sight. A reflection on faith told through the tale of the early Christian martyrs Theodora and Didymus. Handel's music contemplates his own mortality, introspective and yet supremely sublime. A stellar cast led by soprano Tamsin Birch in the title role, the Aylesbury Opera Chorus and Orchesta, conducted by Sam Laughton.
