Ayr Choral Union

Ayr Choral Union is a friendly and enthusiastic choir of about 100 members , who meet weekly to rehearse, socialise and enjoy singing a wide range of wonderful choral music under the baton of our Musical Director, Andrew McTaggart , and accompanied by our talented pianist, Peter Shepherd.

Over the past 140 years the choir has sung classical favourites by Bach, Handel, Mozart, Verdi and Faure, and less familiar works by Poulenc, Pergolesi and Bruckner. Modern works by our patron, Sir James Macmillan, and by Howard Goodall, Morten Lauridsen and Jonathon Dove have been recent successes. Our conductor enables us to achieve the highest standard of performance and enjoyment in the three concerts we perform a year, usually in Ayr Town Hall. In October, and at Christmas we are accompanied by organ, brass or jazz ensembles; and in the spring we enjoy working with a full professional orchestra Professional soloists join us for several of our concerts.
